A lot of folks think of the fall when they think of bourbon drops, when iconic releases such as the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, Pappy Van Winkle, and other mainstays in the bourbon world find their way to market. Truth be told however, great bottles trickle out throughout the year and offer great value for the discerning Bourboneur. Below we discuss five such recently released bottles that either recently hit the market or are just finding their way to retailers and showing up on the secondary.
Particulars: Single barrel, cask-strength, unfiltered bourbon aged 17 years
With the officially launch underfoot June 15th from Augusta Distillery, Buckner’s 17 joins the ranks in the award-winning Buckner’s series with a manufacturer’s suggest retail price of $399.99. Last year Buckner’s 13 was named World’s Best Bourbon in the San Francisco World Spirits competition, and this release as well as their Buckner’s 15 release have enjoyed a buoy of interest after finding their way on the map in a big way from that event. Current Bourbon Blue Book™ pricing on the secondary $620.
Particulars: Cask Strength at 130.6 proof, uncut bourbon aged 11 years, 2 months
Coming off a big year last year with what was one of the brands best releases to-date with their C923 batch, Elijah Craig has again been receiving great fanfare over their B524 batch. With a suggested retail price of $74.99 and the current Bourbon Blue Book™ price on the secondary of $105 this is a bottle that’s with the realm of possibility for most. At a touch over a 130 proof, this bottling is one of the strongest batches in Elijah Craig’s Barrel Proof lineup in some time – at least since 2020. Stacked up against the C923 batch, you’ll probably find it wanting but it’s a bold pour that likely beats out a lot of other great bottles on your shelves at home.
Particulars: Cask Strength at 112.6 proof, uncut bourbon aged 11 years, 2 months
Already flooding across the secondary, this release from Maker’s Mark, a part of their Wood Finishing Series is set to hit shelves this month. Maker’s suggested retail price is $74.99 and the current Bourbon Blue Book™ price on the secondary is $120. For those unfamiliar with Maker’s Wood Finishing Series, the focus is on innovative wood stave-finishing techniques that pull forward varying characteristics in Maker’s bourbon.
Particulars: Single Barrels, bottled at 105-120 proof and aged 7-12 years
President’s Choice comprises some of the best of the best barrels historically hand selected by Old Forester’s President. With the largest President’s Choice drop in the label’s history, bottles from several single barrels started filtering out for sale online June 12th, just in time for Father’s Day. President’s Choice retails for $225 while the current Bourbon Blue Book™ pricing on the secondary showing most of the current releases commanding a price around $600-700.
Particulars: Blend of 15- and 16-year bourbons, bottled at 117.2 proof
Since 2021, Russel’s 13 has been a regular release and the 15 year old Russel’s Reserve is a replacement for this year at least – however, there’s only enough juice for one run and the quantity of that isn’t known (at least yet) to the public. Set to hit shelves July 1 with a retail price of $250, bottles have been finding their way to the secondary, as they do, and rip roaring for a hefty markup at $770 as documented on the Bourbon Blue Book™ as of writing. This has been getting loads of praise from every corner of the interwebs so expect it to be a knockout.
